Excellence du Val-Dieu - Vin de Lérins 12,00%

A unique blend of two completely different worlds

In their constant search for new taste experiences, our brewers allow Val-Dieu Grand-Cru to mature in old Lérins wine barrels. These gradually release their aromas, enriching our beer over time. After a year of development and maturing, the taste is perfect and the ‘Excellence du Val-Dieu’ is ready to be enjoyed. The 2020 edition was voted best beer in the world in the oak-aged beer category at the World Beer Awards.

The concept of barrel-aged beers

An unusual ageing process

The concept of Val-Dieu barrel-aged beers is based on a bold and unexpected combination of two worlds that are as different as night and day. On the one hand, there is Val-Dieu Grand-Cru beer, brewed traditionally in the heart of the abbey. On the other, there is a touch of authenticity from the ageing process in real barrels that once contained treasures from all over the world. This authentic brewing expertise carries with it the traces of a heritage that transcends borders.

Thanks to this unusual ageing process, the intoxicating essence of the barrel’s original contents infuses Val-Dieu Grand-Cru with unparalleled depth and complexity. Subtle woody, vanilla, spicy and fruity notes emanate from the beer, depending on the origin of the barrel, to create a symphony of ever-changing aromas and flavours.

Excellence

Aged for 1 year in oak barrels

A jewel named Excellence
