Val-Dieu stands for authenticity and quality, as it is the only true Belgian Abbey beer 100% brewed in a living Abbey, just like the famous Trappist beers.
The Cistercian Abbey « Notre Dame du Val-Dieu » was founded in 1216 by monks from Hocht, close to Maastricht. According to the legend, the uninhabited valley in which they settled was so hostile that the local population called it “the valley of the devil”. The monks renamed it “Valley of God”, or “Val-Dieu” in French, which later gave its name to the Abbey.
The Abbey of Val-Dieu is the only Belgian Abbey that survived the French Revolution. Today the Abbey is still occupied by the Christian Community of Val-Dieu, which is linked to the Cistercian Order. [...]
Val-Dieu Blond alc. 6% Vol.This fresh and light beer, moderately alcoholised is perfect as an aperitif or as an after-dinner liqueur. It can also go well with a good meal. The freshness at the beginning, will be followed by a pleasant and bitter character in conclusion. It keeps a light white foam coat throughout the savouring. Beer secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Val-Dieu Brown alc. 8% Vol.This beer is coloured and its aroma is more pronounced, with a coffee/ mocha taste. The mocha taste will disappear progressively to give way to a taste of roasted malt that is neither too neutral nor too strong. It is slightly spicy, reminding that it is firstly a beer for savouring. Beer secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Val-Dieu Triple alc. 9% Vol.It is the result of a long fermentation, scrupulously followed by the brew master, with a deep yet soft bitterness. You will recognize a naturally aromatized hop with an alcoholic after taste. This beer, often associated with refined dishes, ranks among the great beers and may be found in some of the most exclusive restaurants. Beer secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Val-Dieu Winter Ale alc. 7% Vol.This beer has a warm amber yellow colour with a quiet sparkling and a fine white foam. Its excellent and digestive taste, partly due to the addition of well selected spices and a bit of Porto, goes well with a highly-pronounced aroma of yeast and malt. A haunting sweetness comprising fine balanced savours will complement this fabulous blend of flavours.
Val-Dieu Cuvée 800 alc. 5.5% Vol.This beer, launched in 2016 for the 800th anniversary of the Abbey is fresh, light and light-coloured. With its hopped taste, due to the dry hopping process, we can also taste citrus aromas. Beer secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Val-Dieu Grand Cru alc. 10.5% Vol.With its dark black colour and its brownish and creamy foam, the Grand Cru is a rich beer, full and powerful with a delicious long aftertaste. You will taste complex and surprisingly mild aromas given the alcohol degree. Produced with strongly roasted malt giving a tangy taste, this beer is also often associated with refined dishes. The caramel froth and roundness in the mouth are in perfect harmony with a medium bitterness and coffee tastes.
